[edit] Biology
The salarians are a warm-blooded amphibious species. Their heads are almost a Halo, with small gap to keep it slightly aerodynamic. The Salarians are frail, with small bones and a tendency to avoid physical harm. Their metabolism is almost twice as fast as a human metabolism. This gives them faster reflexes and a superior mental agility than humans, allowing them to adapt to new situations quickly. This metabolic phenomenon has a drawback, however. Salarians rarely live to be forty years old. Salarians are also natural leaders, partly to due to their diplomatic tendencies.
[edit] Characteristics
They are an intelligent race, and their troops generally take the role of scouts, spies, engineers, and other non-combat professions. This is not to say they are weak, but they have many casualties in combat, this is neither to say they are all soldiers, there are also other salarians having jobs like bartender and scientist.
[edit] Economy
The salarian economy is the smallest of the three Council races. It is based on "bleeding-edge" technologies, with salarian industry leaders in most fields. The salarians have made some of the greatest innovations of time, and they even engineered the genophage.
[edit] War
The salarian culture and military believes in the idea of a preemptive strike. Salarians do not declare war, and find the idea of waiting for a known enemy to attack preposterous. In every war they have ever fought, they have struck first and without warning. Their military makes up for its smaller numbers with superior equipment. The salarians have the best intelligence services in the galaxy, and are experts in cyber-warfare incursions.[1]
[edit] Government
The salarians have an almost medieval political structure. There government is made up of millions of secluded female dynasts, who make policies among themselves with little input from males. The dynasts spread their influence through intermarriages and negotiation. By annoying a dynast, one has a chance of accidentally annoying many more due to influential ties. They are politically liberal.
[edit] Role in the Krogan rebellions
Salarians rescued the krogan nearly 2000 years ago from the devastating nuclear winter they created for themselves. The salarians gave the krogan advanced technology and relocated them to a planet that was not plagued with lethal levels of radiation, toxins and deadly predators. After the Rachni Wars, the krogans turned against the Council causing the krogan rebellions. The salarians engineered the genophage that made just 1 in every 1000 krogan births producing live offspring, which in turn the turians used against the krogan.
