Planets
From Complete Mass Effect
The following information includes plot spoilers.
Here you will find an alphabetical listing of important planets in the Mass Effect universe.~
Contents |
[edit] Akuze
Main article: Akuze
Location: N/A
Description: One of three planets Shepard could be famous for if Shepard has the "Sole Survivor" psychological profile. Shepard is then famous for being the sole survivor of a Thresher Maw attack that killed most of his/her squad. Corporal Toombs also served as one of the Alliance Marines deployed on the planet and was presumed to be dead, but was in secret kept for studying by Cerberus.
[edit] Caleston
Main article: Caleston This Planet and the accosiated quest just appear in the mass effect demo!
Location: Milky Way / Hades G Cluster / Hades CGA 12506
Description: The hostile moon Caleston is the largest satellite of the gas giant of Camunnos. An ancient asteroid left large deposits of Element Zero, which is mined for fuel, within the molten sulphur mantle. Caleston is wrecked with volcanos, due to tidal stresses from Camunnos. It has some silcon-based native organic life, though populations seem to be in decline.
During the course of the game, the player will arrive at Caleston after the geth over run the mining facility. Shepard's mission is to eliminate the geth, but another objective if the player chooses is to save miners trapped in the mines. Garrus is strictly against saving the civilians. So the player has a choice.[1]
[edit] Citadel
Main Article: Citadel
Location: Milky Way / Serpent Nebula / Widow System
Description: Supposedly constructed by the long-extinct Protheans, this colossal deep-space station serves as the capital of the Citadel Council. Gravity is simulated through rotation, and is a comfortable 1.02 standard G's on the Wards and a light o.3 standard G's on the Presidium Ring.
Total Length (Open): 44.7km
Diameter (Open): 12.8km
Population: 13.2 million (not including keepers)
Gross Weight: 7/11 billion metric tons
The Citadel is the biggest space station in the galaxy. It is also the cultural, economic and political center of the known galaxy. It is believed to be created by the Protheans thousands of years ago but in actuality was created by the Reapers. After the Protheans demise, the past centuries have seen forty million people from every species and sector from the known galaxy live in the Citadel.[2]
[edit] Earth
Main article: Earth
Location: Milky Way / Local Cluster / Sol System
Orbital Distance: 1 AU
Orbital Period: 1 Earth Year
Description: For detailed information, please refer to the standard issue Alliance Galactic Codex. Earth orbit is riddled with debris generated by "bootstrap" space development; use of kinetic barriers is recommended at altitudes over 85 km.[3]
Population (Surface): 11.4 billion
Population (L4 and L5 Stations): 250,000
Notes: Shepard's customizable profile allows him to be born in Earth, where he was raised on the streets and has no family record.
[edit] Eden Prime
Main Article: Eden Prime
Location: Milky Way / Exodus Cluster / Utopia System
Description: Captain Anderson and Cmdr. Shepard view the last footage of an ambush on a human outpost located on this planet.[4] Presumably, the human colony on Eden Prime is over run by a hostile force. This idyllic agrarian world was one of the first human colonies established beyond the Charon mass relay. Eden Prime's biosphere is unusually well-suited for importation of Earth-native life. This fertility drew heavy immigration and development by the Systems Alliance and various corporations. In 2183, Eden Prime is the model of sustainable, organized development. The population is housed in space-efficient arcologies that tower over thousands of kilometers of green fields and orchards. Corporal Richard L. Jenkins grew up on Eden Prime prior to joining the Alliance military.
[edit] Elysium
Main article: Elysium
Location: Milky Way / Skyllian Verge
Description: Elysium is the Alliance's oldest and largest colony on the Skyllian Verge. It has a population of several million. Elysium is a major space port and is very stable and secure. One of three planets Shepard could be famous for depending on his/her psychological profile. If Shepard has the "War Hero" reputation, he/she is famous for defending Elysium from a large-scale assault instigated by Elias Holliat. Navigator Pressly was also known to have participated in the battle of Elysium prior to being assigned to the Normandy.
[edit] Feros
Main Article: Feros
Location: Milky Way / Attican Beta / Theseus System
[edit] Ilos
Main Article: Ilos
Location: Milky Way / Pangaea Expanse / Refuge System
Description: Ilos is a planet once inhabited by Protheans. Vigil, the Ilos VI, will be met here nearing the end of the game. Ilos was a top secret Prothean research facility. This is why Ilos was lost until Shepard and Saren found it. Ilos was not wiped out by the Reapers, because its top secret classification kept the Reapers from fnding it. Protheans on Ilos were put into cryo. The cryo took too much energy and was systematicly shut down.
[edit] Jarfor
Location: Milky Way / Sentry Omega / Hoc System
Orbital Period: 1.3 Earth Years
Radius: 63,169 km:
Day Length: 1.3 Earth Years
Description: Jarfor is a gas giant planet which closely orbits the star Hoc. It is primarily composed of hydrogen-helium with clouds of silicate, and deeper layers of sodium. Orbiting so close to the solar systems star, roughly as far away as Earth, has given Jarfor the nickname "hot Jupiter." However, it is much lower mass than one would suspect, it's gases having been expanded by the heat given off by it's proximity to Hoc.[5] In fact, Jarfor is so low-mass it is tidally locked to Hoc. The temperature difference between the sunward "hot pole" and the dark side "cold pole" creates constant hurricane-force winds. In composition, it is extraordinarily similar to 51 Pegasi's planet Bellerophon (one of the first extrasolar planets discovered by humanity in the late 20th century).[6]
[edit] Mindoir
Location: N/A
Main Article: Mindoir
If the player choses the colonist as part of the character creation process this is the planet they were from.
[edit] Noveria
Main Article: Noveria
Location: Milky Way / Horse Head Nebula / Pax System
Description: Noveria is a small, forzen terrestrial world, barely habitable by conventional definitions. It is privately chartered by the Norveria Development Corporation, who leases out labs to perform research too dangerous or controversial to be performed elsewhere. Given Noveria's unique situation, it is the source of many wild conspiracy theories.[7] Port Hanshan is the only spot on Noveria to land the Normandy.
[edit] Torfan
Location: Skylian Verge
Description: Torfan is a location known to be the last stronghold of a hostile coalition force that attacked Elysium. It is one of three planets Commander Shepard is famous for, namely with a Ruthless psych profile. Major Kyle is also one of the soldiers who served on Torfan, but was discharged from the Alliance military after the battle due to the guilt of seeing his men killed during the operation.
[edit] Trebin
Main Article: Trebin
Location: Milky Way / Hades Gamma / Antaeus System
Description: Terrestrial world with an atmosphere composed of nitrogen and argon. The surface is mostly composed of nickel with deposits of silver. On the surface Shepard will find the Trebin Mining Tunnels.
Land: Crashed Probe, Disabled Transmitter, Excavation Site, Plutonium, Research Base, Turian Wreckage, Uranium
[edit] Tuchanka
Location: N/A
Main Article: Tuchanka
The Krogan's native world, known for its harsh environments, scarce resources, and over-abundance of vicious predators.
[edit] Virmire
Location: Milky Way / Sentry Omega / Hoc System
Orbital Period: 3.1 Earth Years
Radius: 6440 km
Day Length: 22.3 Earth Hours
Atmospheric Pressure: 0.9 Earth Atmospheres
Surface Temperature: 32 Celsius
Description: A lush frontier world, ideal for colonization by carbon-based species. Its vast seas and orbital position on the inner life zone have created a wide equatorial band of humid tropical terrain. Unfortunately, the political instability of the nearby Terminus Systems has impeded colonization efforts - the high risk of raids by pirates and slavers makes it an unappealing homestead.[8]
During the game, a transmission originates from here containing information about the whereabouts of Saren.[9]
