[edit] Biology

The asari are mono-sexual, and their features are very similar to those of human females; tall, slender and well-proportioned. Their faces are described as feminine, with a somewhat angelic quality. Typically their skin is colored green or blue, but with modern cosmetics a human displaying such skin colors is not uncommon. The asari have an exceptionally long lifespan, causing them to prefer study and observation as opposed to immediate action.

[edit] Age

Asari can live for over 1000 years, passing through three stages of life. In the Maiden stage, they wander restlessly, seeking new knowledge and experience. When the Matron stage begins, they 'meld' with interesting partners to produce their offspring. This ends when they reach the Matriarch stage, where they assume the roles of leaders and councilors."

[edit] Reproductive Systems

As an mono-sexual race, the asari reproduce through a form of parthenogenesis. Each asari can attune her nervous system to that of another individual of any gender, and of any species, to reproduce, this capacity has led to unseemly and inaccurate rumors about asari promiscuity.

[edit] Government

Asari are fairly centrist in diplomacy, often trying to find the middle ground in politics. The asari are a true democracy, with no proper government. The decisions of the asari are made through polls of public opinion. But in a crisis, the asari turn to the Matriarchs for advice. The Matriarchs are millennial-old asari in the final stage of life.

[edit] Economy

By far, the asari are the most influential race in Citadel space, possessing the largest galactic economy and a well-established diplomatic reputation. The asari have a virtual monopoly on advanced biotic technology because of their numerous craft guilds. With their economy and persuasive influence, a trade embargo by the asari would be a disaster for the Systems Alliance. A number of asari serve as dancers or consorts for hire, but they're also extremely wise; admired and highly respected by every other race in Citadel space.

[edit] War

Despite their vast influence, the asari have a rather small military presence. However, their soldiers are well-armed and very skilled, excelling in the use of biotic powers. Asari biotic commandos are stronger than the most talented human adepts, with biotic abilities that humans cannot replicate. Despite this, their actual military is little more than a collection of local warrior bands. Therefore, they are not organized enough for large-scale military campaigns.[1] Being the first to adapt Prothean technology for their own purposes, they hold more territory than any other race.

[edit] History

The asari are the most widespread race in Citadel space, and were the first to species to utilize Prothean technology. They discovered the Citadel Station over 3,000 years prior to 2157 and, along with the salarians, were the founding members of the Citadel Council.
